The watch face does not update automatically

Due to system limitations of the Apple Watch, all watch faces may experience some delay, with a 15-minute lag considered normal. This is because constantly updating the watch in real time quickly drains the battery.

If you've received a reminder notification but the watch face hasn't refreshed for several hours, or if it only refreshes when you open the watch app, this might indicate a bug.

Please check the following to ensure everything is functioning correctly:

  1. Can your phone and watch app display HRV (Heart Rate Variability) data correctly? If not, check the following settings:

    • On your iPhone, authorize StressWatch: Go to 'iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > StressWatch'. Ensure all data options are enabled.

    • On your Watch, authorize StressWatch: Check 'Settings > Health > Data Sources & Access > Apps & Services > StressWatch'. Ensure all data options are enabled.

  2. Is your watch able to receive stress alert notifications? If not, please refer to “Troubleshooting Watch Stress Notifications” here for help in resolving notification issues.

  3. Additionally, for the Apple Watch:

  • Ensure that 'Settings > General > Background App Refresh' is enabled, and specifically turn on the Background App Refresh for StressWatch. Despite Apple's claims that this doesn’t affect automatic updates of the watch face, our testing suggests it might.
  1. If all the above checks out but your watch face still isn’t updating automatically, try restarting your watch. This issue is more common with watchOS 10, which is known to be less stable.
